Combining immersive eLearning with interactivity and gamification, the Using Social Media Challenge is designed to be as engaging as it is informative. Throughout the course, learners follow ‘John’ as he leads a sophisticated team of cyber-criminals determined to use social media to compromise the personal data of ‘Jane’ and her colleagues.
Faced with hacking attempts like Phishing scams, Spyware, viruses, and cloning, learners are challenged to thwart John’s criminal efforts and must decide the right course of action to win all six security shields and avoid a cyber-attack.
This engaging, interactive course challenges the learner to make the right choices for themselves and their employers when using social media. Unfortunately, there are criminals willing to exploit any accidental slip, so it’s important employees are alert and aware of the dangers.

As the Challenge progresses, learners are asked to make decisions about the scenario they are faced with. Is Jane, the character in question, making the right choices to keep herself safe from John the cybercriminal and his associates?
Correct answers win security shields. There are 6 to collect. If the learner gives a wrong answer, they collect a virus instead.

It’s likely that a large proportion of your workforce use some form of social media on a daily basis. Although great for making personal contacts, social media can negatively affect your organisation’s reputation and employees can sometimes unknowingly risk their personal security or the security of your office.
It’s important that all employees understand the importance of the appropriate use of social media. Even well-meaning mistakes can damage reputations and security, so it benefits both individuals and employers for everybody to be in the know on social media.
Many businesses often use social media as a form of communications channel to amplify their brand messaging, increase exposure and engage with customers and prospects. There are also some social media platforms created specifically for business use. LinkedIn, for example, is a professional social networking site designed for businesses and professionals to explore business and employment orientated services.
Phishing scams are a big risk with social media. A typical phishing scam on social media is designed to get individuals to hand over passwords, banking details, or other private information. Social media accounts are also vulnerable to cyberattacks and breaches. Hackers can go on to control an individual’s account and potentially use it for committing identity fraud.
The most important tip for staying safe online is to ensure privacy settings are configured correctly and you are using secure passwords which cannot be easily compromised. Customising your privacy settings and ensuring strict control on who can view your personal information can prevent it from falling into the wrong hands.
