BCRs are Binding Corporate Rules, which are essentially data protection policies with safeguards for protecting personal data transfers throughout a group of companies spread across the globe and across multiple jurisdictions. The rules include data protection principles and rights and are legally binding. The advantage of BCRS is they can be enforced across the group.
Organisations need to choose a data protection authority (DPAs) to be a lead authority. It often depends on the location of the EU headquarters of the organisation company or a location within Europe of that part of your company best placed to take responsibility for global data protection compliance.
The lead data protection authority facilitates the authorisation process. When the data protection authority (DPA) is satisfied with the adequacy of the safeguards put in place in BCRs, that authority circulates the draft BCRs to the other DPAs in Europe from which organisations need an authorisation. The lead DPA also communicates any feedback received to the organisation.
