This module covers the differences between US data privacy and GDPR-style data protection. You will learn that there may be regulatory activity at both federal and state levels and that the US does not have a unified approach to personal information.
This module demonstrates the fact that data privacy regulations may vary from state to state, including the option of no data privacy legislation being present at the state level. It details how the landscape is constantly changing and may already be different from the case studies you see presented in the course
There is also a comparison of three case studies which illustrates the differences in legislation between states showing that some states have comprehensive regulations, some states have no data privacy legislation, whilst others will have legislation soon.
This module will provide you with some general advice for how to navigate the complex and changing nature of data privacy in the US. It will focus on using common sense and good information security practice, always following company policy, and seeking help from the privacy, compliance, or information security team when in doubt.
The course is assessed on a complete/incomplete basis, with knowledge check questions throughout.
