The Assessment

Learners must use their knowledge and understanding of data protection to handle personal data correctly. Learners help Adria, who is new to the fictional company ChevronLock, to identify which documents contain personal data, sensitive data and to dispose them off properly. For every correct answer, learners earn a token to spend in the ChevronLock café. The goal is to collect at least eight tokens for a Deluxe Meal in the café. The Importance of Data Protection Training

Most businesses process and handle personal data as part of business operations. This includes customer and prospect information and also employees’ sensitive personal data, collected as part of human resources (HR) processes. All such personal data is covered by data protection regulations, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and organisations have a reasonability to handle this data correctly, in line with regulation. It is essential to train employees on what constitutes as personal data, sensitive personal data and how to best handle data.

If you have any questions that are not covered here, please get in touch.

Under the GDPR, if it is possible to identify an individual directly from the information you are processing, then that information may be personal data. For example, a telephone number, a credit card, a personnel number of a person, account data, number plate, appearance, customer number or address are all considered personal data.

Under the GDPR, special category data is personal data that needs more protection because it is sensitive. Sensitive data includes any personal data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinion, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership, genetic data, biometric data used for identification purposes, health data and sexual orientation.

According to the GDPR, common identifiers, when used, may allow the identification of the individual to whom the information in question may relate to. These identifiers include name, identification number, location data and online identifiers such as IP addresses, cookie identifiers, radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, MAC addresses, advertising IDs, account handles and device fingerprints.
