DSE Working with Dual Screens

Many work tasks require the use of more than one monitor attached to the same computer at the same time. It can make comparing two sets of data simpler and helps productivity. From design work to spreadsheet analysis, dual screens can make work life easier for many tasks.

Working with dual screens can also increase the risk of DSE-related health problems. Our Working with Dual Screens short course teaches learners how to set up dual screens correctly, making visual and musculoskeletal complications less likely.

Detailed Study Courses

  • Utilises what we would call a ‘traditional’ eLearning approach, meaning that learners are presented with the information then tested at the end

  • Information is presented in an interactive, engaging way

  • Longer, detailed courses

Display Screen Equipment (DSE) FAQs

Display screen equipment (or DSE for short) are devices or equipment that have an alphanumeric or graphic display screen. They are one of the most common kinds of work equipment in offices. This includes traditional display screens such as desktop monitors, as well as laptops, tablets, touch screens and television sets. Users of DSE equipment may work at a fixed workstation or use portable DSE from various locations, or both.

In 2015/2016, 539,000 out of 1,311,000 work-related illnesses were attributed to MSDs (Musculoskeletal Disorders). Keyboard work using DSE was a major contributor to this figure, which resulted in an estimated 8.8 million working days being lost at an average of 16 per case.

Since the Display Screen Equipment Regulations 1992 came into play, employers have a responsibility to protect their employees from any DSE risk. These include musculoskeletal disorders, neck, back, and shoulder pain, sore arms, fatigue, and eye-strain. Whilst these symptoms do not indicate serious ill health, they can hinder employee productivity and cause chronic discomfort.

DSE Online Training

Our display screen equipment training (DSE) educates learners on how to control the risks of using display screen equipment. In line with the DSE workstation checklist, the course explains how to analyse office ergonomics to assess any health and safety issues that might occur.

The Display Screen Equipment eLearning course coaches learners on display screen equipment regulations (1992). To ensure learners receive thorough display equipment training, the eLearning course is split into four modules – each with a question and answer portion at the end to ensure the user’s full understanding. The course teaches users:

  • How to set up their workstations
  • How to use display screen equipment properly
  • How to sit with good postures
  • What exercises will help to reduce fatigue, pain, and discomfort.

For employees that use two screens at work, we also offer a 5-minute display screen equipment training course ‘DSE – Working with Dual Screens’. This short course is a very focused piece that is an additional supplement to our Display Screen Equipment Training Course.

Our display screen equipment training courses are available off-the-shelf for convenience. We can also work with your subject experts to tailor the approach and information to suit your organisation’s requirements whilst being in line with DSE regulations 1992. Using the Adapt Authoring Tool you can even modify our courses yourself.
