Code of Conduct

A Code of Conduct provides a thorough overview of organisational ethics, principles and standards. This course covers the key ingredients vital for an effective code of conduct, including organisational values, defining who it applies to, highlighting its importance, and recognising its benefits for everyone in the organisation.

Conduct for Employees

Organisations committed to creating a positive and diverse working environment have code of conduct in place to ensure respect in the workplace and compliance with employment laws and regulations. A code of conduct helps guide employees how to behave in the workplace and prevent all forms of discrimination.

Protecting Workplace Assets

Code of conduct and policies help define how to protect intellectual property and keep company assets safe. These policies include subjects such as keeping information secure, respecting customer data, using social media responsibly, protecting assets and taking responsibility towards the environment and local communities.

Trading Ethically

Ethical businesses enforce a strict no tolerance policy towards any form of bribery when working with suppliers and customers. The course covers the importance of including anti-corruption and bribery policies to education employees on the risks associated with bribery and to ensure the organisation is operating ethically and within the law.

The Assessment

During the course, learners will encounter employees in situations that question their conduct and the right thing to do. The challenge is to make the right ethical decisions and avoid breaching the Code of Conduct.

For every right decision, learners collect a ‘Right way’ reward. For every wrong decision, learners see a ‘Wrong way’ sign which indicates that they have breached or violated our Code of Conduct and lost a reward.

Learners must collect at least 12 rewards to successfully complete the course and prove that they can work ethically.

The Importance of a Code of Conduct

It is essential that all employees act ethically, show respect and have integrity. A good Code of Conduct acts as a reference point for your employees and sets standards of professional conduct. It communicates and enforces your company’s values and desired behaviours. An effective Code of Conduct guides employees on how to do things and enables organisations to communicate the tone from the top. Building a culture of compliance requires aligning all employees with organisational values and setting expectations for your workforce.

A Code of Conduct is rules and policy agreed by a business to set the expectations on staff behaviour. The code sets the standards that the businesses expect from their employees so that they are aware of what is expected of them to produce an efficiently working, ethical business. Having a code of conduct can make it clear what behaviours and actions are acceptable within the business.

All organisations, irrespective of type or size, should aim to have a code of conduct. A code of conduct serves as a set of internal guidelines for the employees to follow and acts as an external statement of corporate values and commitments. A well-written code of conduct clarifies an organisation’s values and principles, linking them with standards of professional conduct when it comes to the behaviour of the employees.

A code of conduct is created by the employer to enable their workforce to know and understand what is expected of them in terms of behaviour in the workplace. Therefore, a code of conduct is applicable to all employees within an organisation to create a compliant and efficient workforce. A code of conduct reflects an organisation’s daily operations, their core values and overall company culture.
