Why You Need Modern Slavery Training

The Modern Slavery Act is designed to prevent slavery in the UK and became law on March 26th 2015. The Act covers England and Wales and combines previous slavery and trafficking laws. Modern Slavery includes, but is not limited to sexual and criminal exploitation, domestic servitude, forced labour, bonded labour and people trafficking. Train your employees in understanding what is meant by modern slavery, the various types of modern slavery and the impact on individuals and businesses.

FAQ's

If you have any questions that are not covered here, please get in touch.

Forced labour is the most common form of slavery in the UK powered by the demand for cheap products and services with little regard for the human rights of the trafficked individuals. This includes forced labour in construction, nail bars, shops, car washes and manufacturing, sexual exploitation, or domestic slavery.

The Modern Slavery Act requires any organisation with a turnover exceeding £36m, and which supply goods and services in the UK, to publish an annual statement explaining what they are doing to prevent modern slavery from their businesses and supply chains. Due diligence processes and reporting are essential management tools that improve risk identification and long-term social, environmental as well as financial performance.

Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, businesses with a turnover or group turnover of £36 million or more which are either incorporated in the UK or carry on a business in the UK must comply with the regulation. Section 54 of the Act requires the businesses to prepare and publish a transparency statement setting out the steps they have taken during that financial year to mitigate the risks of slavery and human trafficking.
