Included Features
Forced labour is the most common form of slavery in the UK powered by the demand for cheap products and services with little regard for the human rights of the trafficked individuals. This includes forced labour in construction, nail bars, shops, car washes and manufacturing, sexual exploitation, or domestic slavery.
The Modern Slavery Act requires any organisation with a turnover exceeding £36m, and which supply goods and services in the UK, to publish an annual statement explaining what they are doing to prevent modern slavery from their businesses and supply chains. Due diligence processes and reporting are essential management tools that improve risk identification and long-term social, environmental as well as financial performance.
Under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, businesses with a turnover or group turnover of £36 million or more which are either incorporated in the UK or carry on a business in the UK must comply with the regulation. Section 54 of the Act requires the businesses to prepare and publish a transparency statement setting out the steps they have taken during that financial year to mitigate the risks of slavery and human trafficking.
