Working at Height FAQs

Working at height is one of the riskiest tasks in the workplace and one which results in numerous injuries and fatalities. All employers are legally obliged to put measures in place to prevent accidents and more importantly to provide training for employees.

Working at height means any work (whether on, below, or above ground level) where there is a risk of falling, or where objects could fall and injure the workers below. Working at height training should be mandatory for all employees required to work, supervise, or even organise working at height and it is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that this training is completed. The training will involve educating workers about how to complete a working at height risk assessment, how to use equipment safely for working at height, and how to reduce the risk of falls.

Working at Height Training

There are two working at height online training courses available; at introductory and advanced levels.

The introductory course covers the crucial area of risk identification. One an employee becomes adept at spotting potential risks, the chances of an accident occurring are significantly reduced. When a risk is identified, a solution can be developed to mitigate it and ensure the safety of your personnel.

Also covered is the next step- planning safe work. Once the risk has been identified it is important to put a logical, safe plan in place to mitigate the risk and minimise any potential injury.

The final section of the introductory course covers the safe set up of equipment such as ladders, steps and kick stools. Attempting to set up equipment without prior training is quite simply an accident waiting to happen and this working at heights training course will show learners the safest way to use such equipment.

The advanced course takes the information learners gain from the introductory course and expands on it to include guidance around performing working at height risk assessments. It also details how to select appropriate equipment for working at height and how to put control measures in place.

Both our working at height training courses are available off-the-shelf for ease of use; we can also work with your subject experts to tailor the approach and information to suit your organisation’s requirements. Using the Adapt Authoring Tool you can even modify our courses yourself.
