Workplace fires can be devastating. This module covers the common causes of workplace fires and how they start, with reference to the fire triangle. Understanding is the first step in preventing them from happening. The module also explains the roles of individual workers in fire safety.
There are things we can do every working day to minimise the likelihood of a fire breaking out. When they do happen, using the correct firefighting equipment is vital – choosing the wrong fire extinguisher could make matters worse. This module explores how to prevent fires and the correct equipment to put one out.
When a fire breaks out, it is of critical importance to evacuate the workplace in a safe, orderly manner. This module shows you how, providing lists of what you should and shouldn’t do in this situation, and explains the important role that fire wardens have to play in the event of a fire.
Do you know how to prevent workplace fires – and what to do if they break out? Put your knowledge to the test with our multiple-choice assessment.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility at work. Without proper fire safety training for employees, the risk of a fire starting and possibly injuring someone is greatly increased.
Under health and safety legislation, those responsible should carry out a fire risk assessment on the workplace and take measures to reduce the impact a fire could have. Safeguarding human life is the number one priority of all fire safety training, and that’s why organisations are required to provide information and training on their company’s fire safety policy to all their employees.
Fire safety awareness is spotting fire hazards and preventing the outbreak of a fire. It involves knowing the correct fire evacuation procedures. It is important for all employees to have fire safety awareness to make workplace fires less likely to break out. Fire wardens require a more detailed understanding of fire safety.
A fire safety hazard is anything that might cause or exacerbate a fire in the workplace. They include faulty wiring, incorrectly stored flammable materials and clutter that can spread flames in the event of a fire. It is important to successfully spot fire safety hazards so they can be eliminated.
Fire precautions are any process or feature that makes a workplace fire less likely. Organisations must have multiple fire precautions in place to protect their staff, the public and the surrounding environment from the damaging effects of a fire. These include fire exits and escape routes, fire-fighting equipment and raising the alarm. The fire precautions a business takes should be reviewed regularly.
You get a fire safety certificate by completing a course in fire safety awareness. It is important for all staff to complete training in fire safety. All of our online fire safety courses provide a certificate on completion for every learner who reaches the required pass mark.
Fire awareness training is a legal requirement for all staff. Employers have a duty to conduct risk assessments and protect their staff against all threats to their health and safety, including from fire. This involves making sure they are aware of what causes fires and what to do in a workplace fire.
