During this challenge you’ll collect shields for correctly identifying each hazard in Cryotec’s head office. Collect all of the shields to show you are risk aware.

Our single module short course on spotting workplace hazards is based around a tour of the headquarters of fictional company Cryotec. It challenges learners to spot the hazards in an office, a delivery area and a research lab.
Following their tour of the Cryotec workplace, learners are asked how many hazards they spotted in each setting and asked to identify them.
They are given multiple-choice questions relating to workplace hazards and collect a shield for each correct answer.

Every workplace will have some health and safety hazards. Though almost always avoidable, thousands of workplace accidents and injuries occur every year.
Spotting hazards before they become harmful is a crucial skill for employees in all types of workplaces.
Workplace hazards come in many different forms. They can be physical, biological, chemical or psychological. There are some that are common to most workplaces but others will depend on the industry and work done on site. Learning to recognise workplace hazards is important for all employees.
You control hazards in the workplace by putting suitable control measures in place. In some cases, the hazard can be eliminated entirely by designing work processes around it or substituting the hazardous substance or process for a less dangerous one. Other control measures include PPE or moving the hazard away from people.
Water on the floor can class as a safety hazard. It can cause slips and falls and pose a problem if it comes into contact with any form of electricity. If there is a spillage, a leak or people bringing in rainwater during a storm, this should be dealt with quickly before anybody falls over.
