Noise at work can cause temporary or permanent damage to your hearing, either as hearing loss or tinnitus. Employers and employees can work together to prevent noise exposure at work from damaging people’s hearing.
In our Noise Exposure course, you take on the role of a Health and Safety Consultant specialising in noise. Make the right choices in your appointments around Shady Oaks Industrial Park to help companies assess and manage the risks of noise exposure.

Using the example of a company using a bottling machine, this course highlights the great importance of recording extremely accurate measurements of daily exposure to noise levels. This measurement allows organisations to put the appropriate control measures in place to protect their staff from this harmful and unpleasant yet often overlooked health and safety hazard.
This module of the course involves taking the learner to a construction site to look at Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available for the protection of hearing. It explores the different kinds of hearing protection which are appropriate for different roles and tasks, and touches on the option of changing work equipment for less noisy alternatives that are less likely to damage employees’ hearing.
While speaking to two employees by the burger van, the noise exposure expert played by the learner runs through some of the key responsibilities employees must follow to protect their hearing. The course covers the health consequences of not wearing the correct PPE or following procedures and encourages employees to take their ear health seriously.
As the learner visits the different environments, they answer questions based on the scenarios they have viewed.
The overall assessment is in a multiple-choice question format. Learners must achieve a mark of 80% or above to pass the course.

An estimated 21,000 UK workers suffer from work-related hearing problems. Almost all these cases are completely avoidable with the correct control measures.
The benefits of noise exposure training are clear for employers and employees alike. Investing in quality training can reduce the risk of noise damage and health issues that can have lifelong consequences.
Excessive noise at work can cause health problems, a loss of concentration and productivity, and lowered job satisfaction. In the most serious cases, excessive noise can cause permanent hearing loss. Noise exposure is as serious as any other health and safety hazard in the workplace.
Exposure to noise can cause permanent hearing damage. If it is not properly controlled, it can also cause other health problems such as stress, fatigue and sleeping issues. It is the employer’s responsibility to make sure all excessive noise is controlled and kept at an acceptable level.
Occupational noise exposure occurs when employees are exposed to noise in their workplace. It becomes an issue when the noise is excessively loud or the employee is repeatedly exposed to it.
