PREVENT is one element of the UK Government's four part Counter-terrorism strategy.

PREVENT is intended to stop people becoming terrorists and supporting terrorism by challenging extremism and preventing radicalisation.

Before this can be considered it is important to understand what is meant by the terms extremism and radicalisation, and this eLearning course will help you to do just that.

In summary:

Extremism is defined as a "vocal or active opposition to fundamental British values, including democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs".

Radicalisation refers to the process by which a person comes to support terrorism and forms of extremism that lead to terrorism.

Ways to combat extremism and radicalisation which will be explored in this online training course include:

  • Challenge ideology
  • Supporting vulnerable people
  • Community collaboration

It will also detail how to spot who's at risk, demonstrate indicators of risk and what to do if you think someone is being influenced by extremism and radicalised.
